Slow to warm up issue

I have a 2007 MCS, tired of the idiot light so I added temperature, oil pressure and voltage gauge. At 65 degrees ambient on a sunny day it takes 10 miles to get up to full operating temperature of 220 degrees. The first 2 miles of this run are on dirt roads at 25mph so it seems it should be up to temp sooner than what I am getting. Anyone with a gauge that can provide some input here?

When you get the $100 to $130 thermostat does that include the complete plastic housing, the thermostat itself and the temp sensor. I'm thinking about replacing the t-stat just because of so many problems with it leaking. Anyone know if the current units are better than the original?

Thanks

The main leaking problem with the thermostat wasn't just the housing. It was the gasket. There is a new improved version of that available now. I've added near 50K miles since it was changed out with no problems. Check with the guys at Way or one of the other major vendors. Also, when was the last time you checked your coolant level and does it heat up faster if the cabin heat is turned on?

Coolant level was about 1/4 inch below minimum, so brought it up to max. I usually don't turn on the heater until the engine is half way warm, say 140 degrees. Cold butt but saves the engine. It seems like it takes about the same amount of time to get from cold to 140 as it does from 140 to 220.

So this is the t-stat itself, the plastic housing, the gasket and the temperature sensor?

Just drop Way a PM. Those guys can answer that question, the pictures doesn't share a lot of detail. I'm guessing you don't turn on the cabin heater till the temp is off the peg. Sounds more and more like the thermostat. They don't last forever and you don't say how many miles on the clock.

It appears from the product description that it's the whole package. But as mentioned by Fly'n Brick it would be prudent to contact Way to get the all the info before ordering. Good luck.

As for time to achieve operating temperature, your experience is the same as mine with my 2007 base model. The scanguage shows ambient temp. at start up.....my first mile is on city streets at less than 15 mph......120 deg indicated when I get on the freeway...full temp (218/220) is attained 15 miles later at 60 mph. My 2007 has 126,200 miles on it.

What kind of ambient temperatures are you talking about? Unless it is really cold this amount of time or miles seems excessive to me. I'm the original poster and my 2007 S has no other symptoms and it has 43K on it.
Thanks to all that responded.
