Brakes going bad???

So a possum ran out in the road and I had to slam my brakes(65mph-stop in about 6 car lengths) funny thing was they wouldn't lock up and started to get stiffer the longer they were held down. I almost tapped the little critter! My mcs is an 02 and has 255k miles. I replaced the rear calipers with rebuilt ones from oriellys and put ebc green stuff front pads on and had ebc green stuff rear pads til one of the calipers failed and locked up and fried the pad so now I just have some 90$ rear pads from oriellys. Not sure brand or type. But they were the best they made. I also put new stainless brake hoses on. Also put slotted rotors all around (ATE brand) I picked up from wmw. All this was done about 10k miles ago. So I'm not sure why it's doing this. I didn't feel my abs when I slammed the brakes either. What gives? :(

Get rid of your ebc's...too many failures. I'm changing mine in the spring.

If they didn't lock up then the ABS was working. You didn't feel that gritty or grinding kind of pulse through the pedal?

Should be no issue with the EBC stuff, I have run the redstuff pads and liked them. Never heard of any failures, this is a first.

I haven't either everyone I have spoke to says ebc is great stuff and recommends them. And all abs cars I've driven have had a pulsating feel to the pedal when abs activates and does it's thing. Mine did nothing and the pedal just gradually got stiffer. It wasn't like most abs. I had a similar problem after doing a lot of stops at 30 mph back to back really hard while learning to drive the mini but I replaced some parts since and haven't noticed that but this was just like. There wasn't air in the lines because the pedal didn't go soft. It kinda felt like the brake booster wasn't helping after it got hot?

Look up failures. On this forum and others such as motoring alliance.

I have the greenstuff but my driving habits aren't suited for brake pads that get too hot. Lord knows what would happen when I'm driving for more than two-three hours.

I'm heading for the hawk pads.

Look for some old fashioned riveted pads.

In that first picture it looks like the pad to the left was installed backwards because it has rotor wear on the backing. And if that's the case that would if put a lot if pressure on the other pad creating too much heat for it's design.

Haha, not backwards, TG. What you see is where the pads used to be glued on. Pads separated & disappeared on a scary downhill drive. Having pad gone, it was hitting the rotor, hence that shiny mark. Won't take offense.:D
In all 3 decades+ of motoring, this type of pad failure was a 1st for me. Pads are changed coz they're due, never of failure. Ignored warnings about EBC as I found em good til that happened!

Chad at Detroit Tuned said that the glue compound isn't that good on the EBC's.

We've been moving away from the EBC products as well. There weren't tons of failures, but enough to be annoying. We're using Hawk pads which perform better and are more durable. The only exception is the Hawk ceramic (their low dust Green Stuff equivalent) doesn't have very good brake bite.

That's scary! Well I'll probably replace my front pads then. What's TG btw? Lol I wasn't sure if maybe a shop put that guys pads in wrong or something. Some people do drugs haha.

Pads are an easy task anyone can do, even those on drugs. Haha Only the blind can do that backwards, if it even fits. Haha.
Check your pads, TG & often. I've noticed other low dust pads don't bite as well as EBCs versions though. Best to be safe. Find riveted pads.
