ignition coil.... aftermarket OE

I have read the whole debate about "performance" and the OE MINI ignition coils

but my question is about the AFTERMARKET OE spec coils (not Aftermarket preformance pieces screamin demon/MSD).... Such as brands as BERU (I think my intercooler has a BERU sticker on it), Bremi...ive seen URO and all the others..

does anyone have experience with these ?

I am asking because they are more affordable.... I assume they work the same...

ive used them on other cars with no issues...

just wondering if others use them

I'm confused. What do you mean by 'aftermarket oe?' Its either aftermarket OR oe.

well

maybe im confused as well...

there is OE MINI... which you get at the dealer or one of our mini vendors on here

then there are the regular AFTERMARKET OE SPEC makers brands such as BERU, BEMI (sp?), beck arnley, other brands you can get at local auto store...

i guess for example... I believe BERU provides OEM equipment for Mini for some parts....

and BERU does make an ignition coil... that cost significantly less than the OE Mini ignition coil....

BERU is a trusted brand.... but every ignition coil thread ive read about are about the SD/MSD coils vs OE

I want to know about other brands OE type vs OE mini ?

unless your boost is thru the roof and your dumping enough fuel to blow out the spark when it fires, why would you want more voltage beyond what the oe stuff has ? to hot a spark can cause some issues.

I think I failed this thread....

my question isnt about performance coils.... having more voltage

im asking about the OEM SPEC coils... that are NOT made by genuine MINI

or am I misunderstanding that these OE replacement coils have higher voltage than GENUINE MINI OEM coil

(my understanding are OE spec coils (made by a different manufacture) are to replace the STOCK OEM GENUINE OEM COIL (MADE BY MINI).

am i using the wrong name for brands such as BERU, Beck Arnley, URO

maybe this will help my case... as I seem to be confusing everyone

http://www.ecstuning.com/Mini-2003-C...gine/Ignition/

on ECS you can see for coil replacements... there is GENUINE MINI... then there are the OTHERs

IMO, check to see where the coil was made....
The OEM is vetted.....
My experience on a non mini...bought "standard brand" coils (individual) for a toyotda v6....got 2....one failed in 3000 miles or so, another in 11 months...the replacement for the first failed one then failed...keep in mind the OEM denso's that were left had 200,000+ miles...
So I bought 6 new denso's made in Japan, the replace all 6 from rock auto...
Were about $5 less than the "standard" brand ones from auto zone (which were made in China).... I have been told they are now making those coils in Poland/US now...
So IMO, any aftermarket coil is only as good as the brand that is willing to put their name on it...
Since "service level" parts are often junk....few folks here try them...a name like beru or bher might make you feel batter, but often they just slap their name on a 3rd party part to get catalog coverage for their outlets....
Just be sure to get the right pin configuration on the coil...flat or rounded... Not all mini's have the same coil/configuration....and the wrong one will not plug in....and slight differences in size of coils can be an issue...you may need to buy spacers/bolts....
The MSD/SD has usually been packed with those parts (not summit racing)....but the coil is shared with a few others cars...some Mitsubishi cars...hense the listings...
IMO the msd coil was a winner cause it had brass plugs....and was a couple $$ cheaper than OEM, AND is a name that has something to loose from selling cheap junk....

I bought and installed a Beru coil a few months ago. It was one of the few aftermarket ones that I could readily find that used the oem bolts. No trouble so far but again, only two months.
