Exhaust Pop Between Shifts

Hello!

I found many online resources for this issue on other cars and know what the common resolution is, but I thought I'd check with some of you Mini gurus out there.

After changing the spark plugs and wires on the wifes '05 MCS, I notice a more pronounced pop between shifts and during higher RPM deceleration. Plugs are: NGK BKR7EQUP, and Wires are also NKG(the blue ones if it matters.)

I did a test and threw some Denso plugs in there, Mini specific, with the OEM wires just to see if there was a difference....it just ran like crap, with the pop. Test failed.

Now, based on this pop and a distinct smell of running a bit rich, I've determined the car is running a bit rich

1.) Is the pop as normal on a Mini as the interweb portrays?
2.) Is it common for these things to run a tad bit rich?
3.) If not, what commonly causes them to run a tad bit rich?
4.) Is my diagnostics even remotely close?

Thanks in advance!

Pop and burble is normal for the 1st Gen S. Some celebrate it and a few denigrate it, your option. I, personally, enjoy the feedback. Changing hardware won't have any affect as the feature is programmed into the ECU

Thank you for clearing that up. As long as its normal. I never mind pops and gurgles of aftermarket exhausts, I'm a Subaru guy haha, but I thought it unusual for the stock exhaust.
