engine ticking noise at idle

well first off I have to admit this isn't on problem on my MINI but on my friend's 2004 Sonata. At idle there is a ticking noise coming from the back of the engine, originating at the spark plug/cylinder region. I'm thinking stuck lifter. Anyone else have any ideas?

I have a MINI, not a Sonata. If it is direct injected... it makes a ticking noise.
