Tach issue
Tach issue
Does anyone know why my tach would be reading about 1,000 RPM higher then actual RPM? When I turn my 05 cooper S off the tach stops at 1,000 RPM (not going to zero) and now it reads the RPM about 1,000 higher than normal.
I don't know what might have caused the misalignment, but you can open the tach and reposition the needle. Look at the instructions here: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...with-pics.html
It wouldn't hurt to try it, but realistically I think you will have to physically reposition the needle.
*UPDATE*
Resetting the ECU did it. I am not sure what the cause was but after finding the thread on NMA about resetting the ECU I figured that I would give that a try before tearing into the tach or spending $150 dollars for the dealership to look at it. Good to go!!!
