Should I replace the tranny fluid?

I was reading a magazine article about car maintenance and it warned me that most people forget to check their transmission fluid and wind up voiding their warranties! My '09 Clubman has about 50,000 miles and runs on a 6-speed manual. Should I change the transmission fluid soon? One owner on another forum changed the transmission fluid even though his brand claimed it was "maintenance free" and it made a gigantic difference in how his shifter behaved. My shifter always made a noticeable click each time it moves around in the gate so should I go by the odometer or the age of the car when changing the tranny fluid?

i would say do it! it does not take long at all to do. i used red line MTL in mine but i think there are other fluids you could use. i definitely noticed a difference when i changed mine.

No such thing as lifetime fluids. Transmissions typically don't take that much fluid and it's not terribly expensive. Change it next time you get the chance.

There is a HILARIOUS sticker on the 6-speed that reads "Lifetime Fluid". What a joke!

I changed mine at 50K with Royal Purple Synchromax. Just a hair smoother. Redline and AMSOil make great products too.
