has anyone else had this problem?

the hood/hatch light comes on sometimes after i close the hatch, and i can re-close it a hundred times it won't go out... but an hour or two later (or after a shut-down, restart) it goes out by itself.

I am assuming this is happening with the hatch b/c i open and close the hatch, rarely touch the bonnet.

is this gremlins or a normal thing?

thanks

I have a hard time getting my light to go out, but that's because I have a hard time getting my boot closed properly. Alls I do though is to slam it and the warning light goes out. Since this doesn't work in your case, I'm thinking you probably have a bad switch. Get your dealer to check it out. If they're reasonable, they will probably just change it w/o making you replicate the problem (the part is probably all of about $5 bucks).

(btw, electrical gremlins ARE a bit of a normal thing on MINIs...IMO )

Yes, I've had the same problem a couple of times on my 2 month old MCS. Surfaced for the first time last week for a couple of days and hasn't been seen since...so far!

A new latch release mechanism should cure it. It contains a microswitch which tells the ECU that the hatch is latched.

Coopsta had a similar problem. After a little investigation, it turned out the latch was very loose. It only took a 10-mil socket with extension to tighten. Neither he nor I could understand why it was loose but it was. I suggest you test it.

I have noticed with the MINI vs other cars that doors, bonnet, boot have to be closed relatively rough. I have not had the warning light act strange, but I will keep an eye out for the next few days-- I will report anything that seems to be strange.

I have had the same problem with my MINI. To get the light to turn off, I have to 1) roll up the windows. 2) open and close the hatch door. 3) lock and unlock the doors with the key a couple of times. 3) let it sit locked for a few minutes.
Very frustrating. Ford Rangers have a very similar problem with the door ajar light. A quick squirt of WD40 on the latch solves it. I haven't tried that yet - don't want to void the warranty - LOL!

Why vent so much? Problem with car ? Just go to your MINI dealer service - it's called a 4 year/50,000 mile warranty.
I am sure it is an extremely fix. Good luck!

Here in SoCal there is a waiting list to see the dealer and it is a pain.
