2010 Baseline Cooper Idle/Stall Problem

New to the boards, first time posting, sad that its with an issue, but noticed there are alot of helpful individuals on this board. Here we go:

Just purchased a used 2010 Baseline Mini Cooper from a used Mitsubishi dealership. Had about 77K miles on it. One owner (So they told me.). I had a lapse of judgement and didn't get a carfax either (My fault).

Anywho, just yesterday, the car died out on me at a traffic light. Just before it stalled out on the light, I noticed shifting felt sluggish/heavy, when I reached the light, the car stalled/died. It would not start immediately, but after about 5-10 minutes waiting at the light the car started AFTER I had pumped the gas trying to get it to catch.

Thankfully there was a shell station nearby and I was able to pull into it. No warning lights at that time had activated, but after a few minutes of looking under the hood and a few turn off/starts, the check engine light came on (Speedometer Only) in yellow. My fluids are good, except for coolant, which was pretty much non-existent. Initially I had thought that that was the issue, so I picked up a gallon of Prestone Coolant and refilled the tank. All the coolant went in, but the reservoir tank still looks pretty empty. I'm at a lost at this particular junction, just felt that it was prudent to mention it.

Fast forward to today, I start my car up, idles fine at about 900-1000rpm. I try to take it out on the freeway (About a six mile commute) and right before the exit, the car dies on me while moving along in traffic. I got it working after about 2-3 minutes, just enough time to get me on the exit ramp and off the freeway. Then I stall again at a left turn stop light and one more time down the street before I turned into my place of employment. Again, took me 2-3 minutes each time to get her going again.

Now, I'm at work, check engine light is off now, but the car still idles anywhere between 500-1000, sometimes dipping to the point that it'll stall out after driving it for 10-20 minutes.

Sorry for the wall of text, but from browsing the threads, most of the people here know their stuff, so I wanted to be as detailed as possible. Thanks for reading

tl;dr
Car idles between 500-1000rpm and will stall out at traffic lights after driving for too long. Engine shakes slightly while idling.

It was out of coolant, and now it doesn't work right.

I'm guessing there's some damage inside the engine. :(
