New to me Mini, engine cut out
New to me Mini, engine cut out
First post to the forum. I have an '06 R50 5-speed that I just purchased with 107k miles. It's in pretty rough shape - no apparent maintenance - so I'm going to nurse her back to health. I searched the forum and found out about the stall after starting the car but my issue isn't that.
Anyway, changed oil, plugs/wires, coolant, and transmission fluid. Went for a quick spin a few minutes ago and the engine cut out when I came to a quick stop at the end of my subdivision (about 1 mile from my house). It started right back up and off I went. When I got home, the fan ran for a couple of minutes at shut off which it has never done before.
Code reader shows no codes. Expansion tank has plenty of coolant so it doesn't appear low.
Any thoughts - all I can think of is no fuel. I have a new fuel filter on the way but I would appreciate any help or things to look for.

Also, just checked to see what battery is in there and it says EconoPower and is marked "Recon" (reconditioned?). Any chance that's the issue?
Nevermind - just tested battery and it was 12.6v.

A loose nut where it connects to tge car CAN cause your issue....so make sure the terminals are tight, and check the ground under the hood.
ZippyNH is right about checking your ground connections and making sure the terminals and battery posts are clean and bright. Also, not connected with stalling but are you sure you bled the coolant system completely? It's EZ to get trapped air in the system.
Terminals look like new. I'll have to look for the grounds and check them. Just strange that I drove the car 90 miles home through the north Georgia mountains and things were fine.

When I bled the coolant, I found the bleed screw up front near the radiator but couldn't find the second one mentioned in some of the articles. It looks like the car has some aftermarket hoses so maybe they got rid of it.
I think I read the main ground is near the passenger motor mount? I will check that tonight.

Cleaned the throttle body - it was pretty gunked up. So much that I threw a code from all the cleaner I used. Chugged for awhile but took out for a spin and now the idle is very smooth. Hopefully that was my issue.
