Well it looks I am up the creek without a paddle. Just at 70k miles on a 2008 MCS and it needs timing chain replaced(guide rails destroyed), turbo oil line leaking, and needs the valves cleaned. Of course all this on a car that is out of warranty but not yet paid for (cuz I'm just lucky like that). Oh yea, plus it's sitting at a dealer that is 2 hrs away.
Of course I could just have it all fixed for a mere $4200 or so, which is about the same amount they insulted me with for a trade in value on the car.

I have had the timing chain assembly replaced and it is in for the turbo line oil leak as I write this. I had it in for an oil change last week and wanted the combustion chamber cleaning done but was told that they were afraid they would be unable to disconnect the fuel line without breaking it. They couldn't do the cleaning without replacing this line as well to the tune of another $282.00. Cleaning is on hold for now. I also need sway bar bushings front and back and a link.
I feel your pain.

Not that it helps you out here, but it's interesting to note for those who are on the fence that the cost of the Extrended Warranty is cheaper than the fix for all three of these issues...

Talk to your local mini club they probably have a reputable shop they use when they are out of warranty. When it comes to extended warranties make sure you read what they cover I know people whose extended warranties cover almost nothing and are a waste and others will cover even rubber components.

On mine the dealership ended up coming down on price some and I wound up having them do the work since at least any work they do would be covered for 2 years. Ended up out the door for a little over $2800 for complete timing chain replacement, walnut blast, new plugs and oil change. Stings, but not as bad as what they first quoted me. Dealership also had their guy drive the car 2hrs back to me and picked up the loaner they had given me to drive. (2013 Clubman S )
Still need to get turbo oil line replaced, but going to tackle that one myself with a friends assistance. Already have the parts in hand from Detroit tuned. Just couldn't see paying $900-1100 to replace a part that costs less than $100.
Car does seem to have its pep back, but kind of afraid to put it through it's paces too hard until I can get that oil line replaced.
I do know that if I end up ever trading this one for a new Mini, I will be getting the extended warranty!
