Check engine light just appeared
As stated in the title, the check engine light just happened to turn on today. I checked the oil and its fine. All connections seem to be solid and the coolant reservoir. (Just had thermostat replaced) is level too. I did however notice that the dealer failed to reset my service interval when I got my oil changed...
So my question is: would not resetting the service interval set off the service engine soon light? I am going to run it to Way from now on. The dealer was a free oil change and I am tired 9fof thelack of service experienced there.

The place to start is what code it threw to turn on the light. Without that it is a real shot in the dark to guess.

Nope...oil level or coolant level or even service overdue will not, in itself, turn on a check engine light.
As stated above, get the code read at a repair shop or a parts place that does it for free....it does not nessesrlily tell you what is broken, but tells you what senor is reading something out of limits...could be the sensor itself, or something else broken, but the code is a useful nit of data to help troubleshoot it.

Sounds like it could be more serious than I previously thought...I am going to run it by an auto parts store around the corner from me that I know does this sort of code reading, then try to figure it out from there. Being about 9you years old and with 107k on the ticker, I have tried to see what it could be through searching the forum here. Seems like the three usual suspects are fuel pump, o2 sensor, or even the clutch... but car is running fine and doesn't act up shifting or anything like that. I am leaning towards o2 sensor at the moment
9 times out of 10, check engine with nothing else showing up is emissions related - and most of the time THAT is an 02 sensor. Your car won't blow up - it just thinks you're running dirty which may or may not be true as often it is just a bad (or loose connection on) a sensor
The universal OBD codes are mostly emissions - now if a code pops up that isn't generic the parts or service guy may not be able to tell you what it is .... then you need a MINI or BMW guy for the special codes.
If you're close to WAY he can handle it 4 sure - but I would not get stressed out ... it is probably minor.

Yeah, def. something minor. The car is running fine. The code it threw according to my new scanner tool is P0456, which said it could be a vacuum leak or defective purge valve (?) either way, Way is working on the suspension coming up, so I will address this as well at that time
Any other thoughts are appreciated and most helpful !
