Quick Question. Just bought my first mini. its a 2007. there seems to be some air leaking from the sunroofs starts about about 40 mph and its driving me CRAZY!!! do i need to replace the seals is it a hard thing to do?

Had the same problem with my '07. On mine it was an adjust of the glass to the seal under the glass. I could slide a piece of paper between the 2. The dealer took care of it under warranty. With the sun roof open you should be able to see if the seal is damaged. If it is not then the fix should be an adjustment.

My wife waited until ours was out of warranty and then they charged her big $$$ to fix it. She loves to spend money needlessly.

 

haha might as well take advantage, and try to get her to spend it "needlessly" on YOUR toys! lol

well i removed the luggage rack on top of the car and the noise went away. problem solved. thanks guys..

 

No noise with my luggage rack. I have the MINI rack.

Not sure why yours would make that much noise, unless you don't have the rubber strip in place that seal the slot on the top.

Any rate, glad you found the source of your noise...also you will pick up about 3 mpg by taking that off.

 

yea i have the same rack. Im not sure why it would make that noise either it seemed like everything was in good shape. Oh well im just glad its gone.

 

Just curious, I just installed the MINI rack and I get some noise. It isn't too bad with the glass closed, but when it is opened you can really hear it. Eddie, Carmelo, did your racks have the plastic fins mounted on the front cross beam underside? The rack comes with 3 of them glued left, center, right and was the answer for wind noise, as I understand. I wrapped my cross bars and took mine off and have not glued them back on and that is why I'm curious.

 

yes mine has those three fins. I thought that they may be the reason why but i ended up just taking off the whole rack. I dont need it right now.

 

Mine has them too. They are on the bar in the front. My bars also came with rubber pieces that fill the slot on the top. My '07 had the sun roof and the bars added a little noise but not very much. I would run it all winter and it never bothered me.

My '12 does not have a sun roof and I don't hear a thing...I know...doesn't count.
