BMW of Hawaii installed V37 in my 2003 MCS (Lucy) on Saturday. Lucy had the stumble when shifting from neutral to first, and the colder she was, the worse it was. She also had a problem with starting on the first turnover when she was cold too (cold in Hawaii being in the low 60's).

I am happy to report that V37 seems to have fixed the stumble problem. Temp was in the low 60s this morning when I fired her up, and no problems there either. Of course, the only way to really assess this as a "fix" is to see how it works long-term, but so far, I am pleased (knock on wood!!!). V37 also seems to have eliminated most of the delay in acceleration. Lucy feels very peppy, quick, and responsive now.

With the old software, I was also constantly having problems matching RPMs when shifting. It is MUCH easier now and shifting is much smoother.

I am now running on v37 because of a starting issue, which is still not fixed. Sadly, my stumble seems worse now than it was with v36. It's not as harsh but it is now more noticeable in 4th gear. Temperatures around here are ranging in the mid to high 80's.

I live in Miami, FL where temps have also been in the mid to high 80's and humidity well north of 70%...not a single problem with neither one of my MINIs. They perform beautifully with or without the A/C on in the blistering Florida heat.

Both cars have version 36 installed. No problems whatsoever.

Stumble and yo-yo seem to be temperature related issue. After getting v37, my car stalled on a few occasions during initial start.

I keep telling myself, be patient and have faith!

Tha's why I decided to skip V37 and wait for V38. I have read in several posts that V37 seems to induce engine stalls which are non-existing in code V36. In fact I will wait and see how V38 pans out after a few "guinea" owners gets it before I jump in the bandwagon.

After observing various threads on driveability issues and dealing with BMW on these software issues it is obvious that no 2 MINIs operate the same under the same conditions. Some yoyo, some stumble and many go as they should even if the e-pedal is a little unresponsive. Driver input and ambient conditions combined with the adaptive software apparently make it that way.

Tha adaptive software is very tricky for sure.

Crapola! I pulled out in front of an on coming car this eve and stumbled.

Must be warm weather related. I was good all winter

David - I'm glad that you are still here with us to write your post. I could not wait for a cure for the MINI, especially when my 74 year old mother was driving it. I truly hope BMW/MINI makes reparations to all the owners that have encountered this stumble as it can be life threatening. This problem has been around since Day 1 and MINI keeps coming up with "fixes and patches", just like Microsoft. Unfortunately, these fixes and patches are only temporary. I know other people who have encountered these problems and MINI USA has offered them a $25 gift certificate for accessories. What a slap in the face! What will it take for BMW/MINI to own up to the safety issues created by the stumble and yo-yo, a fatality? I hope NHTSA is aware of this issues as it impedes the safety of the vehicle.

im still on my pre-v36 program.

I get one hiccup when I start off cold in 1st gear in the morning...otherwise,
i get a hiccup if i rev a little too long before clutch engagement. Im almost
to the point where I can feather it out perfectly though.

Yo-yo only happens when I engage the clutch abruptly at too low of an rpm.
The Unichip seemed to have smoothen that out though.

Originally, I had a stumble going from 1st to 2nd gear. V36 was loaded in October and it vanished........but for the last week I have experienced an occasional and unpredictable stumble. It's very minor and doesn't really bother me at the moment although I'd enjoy not having it at all.

Mine's back too. Here's a thread I started on the Mini Talk forum...On my car, it's definitely AC related- and it occurs when starting from a dead stop on an incline.

To All,

I'm one of the v.38 "guinea pigs". My '04 MCS suffered from the yo-yo but did not have the stumble or other reported problems. I had my ECU sent to NJ and I got the car back yesterday. I will need at least 300- 400 miles before I can feel somewhat sure about what I report but, at the moment, the yo-yo is gone. However, we have seen many a fix be negated by the adaptive feature of the ECU.

I'll be posting the results to The Yo-Yo Chronicles on NAM and the Cooper S forum on MINI2 in a thread named CD 38 Update. Ryephile will soon have the same update performed and will be able to give some actual results from his test equipment.

My 02 MCS had a very serious stumble when I purchased it.
Got v36 installed Dec 03 and it was like a miracle...no stumble, yoyo barely noticeable.

Now temps are in the 80s+....ran my car with AC on and BOG...stumbles back.
So disappointed I haven't turned the AC back on.

What next BMW? Love my car, but it is seriously scary to pull into traffic.
Gets over 100F here in the summers...I will be wanting AC....I can't recommend this car to ANYBODY with this potential problem which is unsolved so far...I hope BMW lets us know they hear this and they are working on it.

Strange........the occasional slight stumble that I was experiencing has been gone
for the last four days.......not that I'm complaining! Maybe it was just driver error.
