diesel rattle but not from cold start

I never had a cold start rattle. But I get the diesel like rattle after I start my in car that had been parked for several hours in the hot afternoon.
I don't get the rattle when the engine is hot like after driving. Should i be worried about the tensioner or timing chain?

I'm not sure if you should be worried but I would monitor it. Mine started off that way not knowing it was the chain tensioner.

How long did it go on for before you fixed it? Did you do the repair yourself?

My son's out of warranty 07 is starting the rattle at 81K. I see learning new skills in my future. In 2010 the dealer would have hurt you how bad had it not been for the warranty?

Sorry cant answer your question. Dealer never told me and I never bothered to ask since it was under warranty. I know there's several threads in here with ppl chiming in on cost from dealerships.

I had the same. Started with the rattle. Mostly in the mornings. Then the safe mode CEL came on. Found that the BOV is failing. Replaced it. And so far after 1 day of driving. Even in the mornings. No rattle or CEL.
