Another remote/key question.
Another remote/key question.
My problem: I bought my R55 off-lease, and it only came with one key. I don't really NEED a second Convenience Key, I just want a back-up. But the Convenience key is more expensive.
My question: Will a "regular" Gen 2 MINI remote work in my "Luxury/Convenience" MINI for opening the doors and starting the car (when in the key slot/cradle)?
It may not be worth the effort, but the cost difference is $100-150 (which ain't chump change for us under-employed folks).

I have been around here for over 4 years and dont ever remember this question coming up before.
The problem is that they work in slightly different ways so I am not sure if the Non CA will work with the CA car.
The reason i say that is even the CA fob is in the slot the CA system is looking for it thru RFID. and if it can not find one I dont think it is going to start.
Of course I may be wrong on that but knowing how the CA system works it is doubt full that the car will start without it.

I just hate forking over soooo much money for what will hopefully only be a key-hook decoration in the laundry room.
My '08 lease return only came with one "Convenience Key" when I was buying it and I told the sales person that was a deal breaker for me as my wife and I both needed our own keys. So he signed a paper promising me a second Convenience Key at no charge and they even programmed it for me too. Is it too late for you to get them to give you a second key for free?

Yeah, I was a bit irritated. A lot more so when when I discovered just how much the Fokkers cost.
