Could I have my first real problem with my MCS? From the
engine I'm hearing a kinda moan... at idle anyway... and it
lasts a few seconds after I shut the engine off... the moan
slowing down as it quits.

No warning lights on the dash, no driving problems.

I'll get it into the shop as soon as I can, but can anyone tell
me what this might be? Hope it's OK to drive...

Godspeed.

Power steering fan?

Just a guess.

Either that or the ghost of that squirrel you flattened.

Some people have reported a collapsed hose on MCS causing a whining after engine stop.

Thanks, Trippy... I'll start sqeezing hoses! I'm more than
two hours from my dealer, and not likely to get down there
this week... mmmmmm hope it'll be OK.

Yes, yes! That hose is all squishy and I can make
the noise louder or softer by messin' with it. (Why
didn't I spot that myself?)

Thanks guys! Looks to be an easy fix. Hose and valve.

Godspeed.

I had the same problem, hose didn't have a clamp on it and kept slipping off. Put clamp on it and everything is fine.

Thanks guys, I think I have this problem as well. I thought it was the fan, but it looks like the hose.

So let me get this right, if you have a really pliable hose its going bad and needs to be replaced? My hose is soft and squishy and it should be firm?(No Viagara jokes) Would the Alta catch can help diminish this problem, make it worse?

So I just twisted some wire to form a temporary clamp.
I'll get the permanent fix from the dealer as soon as I
can. For now, the funny sound is gone. Thanks again.

Mine was loose and slipping off, no jokes, so a 30 cent clamp seems to have fixed the problem. Afraid to take it to the dealership, they may just make it worse.

Its located just to the left and below the "M" in "MINI" on the plate on the top of the engine.

HMMMM, one wonders if the hose is being attacked by the fluid....shouldn't go soft........sometimes the "materials compatibility" guys are not the sharpest knives in the drawer.......
