Goo/slime running out from scoop/hood area down bumper

I just noticed some dried goo that's run out from between the two layers of the hood around the scoop area, down the inside of the hood and onto my bumper.

Up under the hood it's still wet and a bit oily (but it's not engine oil) but out in the wind it's dried to something nasty that won't come off with soap. It doesn't seem to have been ejected from anywhere in the engine area.

Any idea what it could be? Are minis treated with Cosmoline or similar for shipping to the USA?

Yes, it's probably cosmoline - used during shipping process.

Try a little wd40 to clean it off, assuming it hasn't caked/baked into the paint/rubber.

I had the same problem but on the wheel well trim, the dealer cleaned it up and replaced the stained trim.

I too have had this problem. My dealer said to wipe it off, but if it stains a anything they will replace trim. He said it was cosmoline and when it gets hot it will run like oil.

I saw it on the front wheel trim of every car I looked at yesterday while my car was being serviced. There's nothing like a 90+ degree day to make it run. You can try using hot water to soften and remove it.
