Manual Transmission 4th Gear Whine

I'm experiencing a whine in 4th gear with ~500 miles on the odometer. Just returned from a short vacation covering 300 miles travelling at various speeds over three days.

No unusual noise in the other gears. On one occasion the noise gradually grew louder and louder (harmonic?), then suddenly stopped.

There does not seem to be a way for the owner to check the tranny fluid. Is this normal for the break in period, or should I contact the dealer ASAP?

A blast from the past...four years now and there has been no recurrence of the whine described in the earlier posting. My guess is that there was a burr on one of the tranny gears, it broke off, and is now made its way onto the magnetic drain plug (that is if our plugs are magnetized).
