Trans chatter
Trans chatter
Hi everyone. I started to notice on my 05 Cabrio Manual, when I shift, right at 2k it sounds like metal chatter. It goes away above and below 2k when driving. If the clutch is presssed in, there is no such sound at 2k. Only when in gear and at all gears. Is this normal?
EDIT: I didn't answer the question you asked, but you can still give it a shot. It is hard to know if it is gear related, or clutch related with just a description of chatter.
Having just done a clutch and looked into transmission fluid choices, the first thing I would do is have the fluid changed with Redline MTL. You can get 2 quarts on amazon for about $29 shipped and have it changed or do it yourself. It will use 1.8 Qts.
If you read up on it, you will find the syncros do a lot of work and according to them and user reviews, it can quiet that shift noise if it turns out to be the issue. It won't cost much and fluid change can not hurt, especially if it is original.
Wifes car is notchy shifting and I just 5 mins ago ordered her some to put in and see what happens.
