CVT drain plug broken??

Hello All!

I can't thank you guys enough for all of the excellent information on this site.

That being said, I went to change my CVT fluid on my 2006 r50 and I ran into a big problem. The drain plug on the bottom of the transmission sump just spins and won't come out or go further in, as if it has been stripped (see attached photo). It is pretty loose, but it doesn't leak at all. I can't imagine how this is even possible, but it is what it is.

Is this some special drain plug that I need a special tool to remove? A 5mm hex key fits fine so I can't imagine it is something weird.

Otherwise, can I use my suction gun with a long tube to suck the fluid out from the top fill hole or the level check hole? I don't know what the inside of the tranny looks like.

Please help me out! I'm a new mini owner and I want to get to know this car.

Thanks,
Joe
