'06 MCS R52 Door removal procedure

Hey all, need to remove both doors from my MINI. Trying to figure out if I remove the hinge from the door, or remove the pivot from the hinge. It looks like the pivot can be removed and would be the preferred method as to maintain alignment of the door.

I'm trying to fish new speaker cables through that very tight conduit and it only gonna happen with the doors off

Thanks in advance!

I ran wires through my doors just fine without removing them. See pics in my gallery, and step by step in my 'powerfold mirror' thread. Just disconnect the door connector, run wires from inside and through connector (after drilling out), then fish through accordion connector.

I looked at your gallery and that helped. What's the procedure to disconnect the door connector? I took off the single bolt and slid it back towards the cabin. The connector "cover" came off but it seems like there is another step to disconnect.

Also had a question about the picture labeled "door_conn_pwr_wires_web"

Did you have to destroy the connector? I've never looked at a good one, so I can't tell.

Thanks for your time Eric

Ok, I found your thread on the mirror project. You said close door halfway, then push connector forward" Are you using the car body to brace the inside connector as you push the outside connector towards the front of the vehicle?

I'm just having a really tough time trying to visualize this connector, so the two halves slide apart to unlock and then you pull it off?

I got it, it's sort of like the two connections for the ECU.

You guys are the best! Cheers
