New '04 MCS has developed an oil leak at 4K miles on the driver's side of the car. Steady drip coating the subframe and transmission area - unable to determine source.

Has anyone else experienced an oil leak/failure on these cars?

Not me. My '04 MCS (9/2003 build date) with 5,200 miles has been absolutely troublefree. No oil leaks, no problems at all.

Has the dealer been given an opportunity to go over the car to find the source of the oil leak?

the driver's side has the transmission - have you looked further to identify the origin of the leak? If your dealership is competent, bring it to them, this is obviously a case where Warranty is helpful.

Oil leaks are unheard of, get it checked out ASAP.
Good luck,
Ryan

You can try tightening the valve cover bolts. I had a small leak from there. tighthening has pretty much fixed it. I am replacing the seal next week.

Oil Leak

I also have an oil leak, but mine appears to be on the passenger (US Model) side. I have an appointment next week to have it looked at. It has been leaking for about a month now and I haven't registered being low using the dip stick. just a few drops on the floor of my garage.

Driver side leak could be a shaft seal in the transmission, it could also be an overfilled transmission (din't change gear oil did ya?)
The transmission has a cover on the back of it. You can see it and get at it if you remove the plastic inner fender. Easy enough to do, all you need is a phillips screw driver. Just make sure you find all the plastic clips and the couple of of actual screws that hold it in place.

Pass side..... trouble in the oil filter area would be mah guess......

I took it back to the dealer and they found when they did my oil change that the O-Ring in the oil filter was kinked. They replaced the O-ring and fixed the problem.

Yay! for competent dealership monkeys!

Honestly - how do you kink the oil canister seal, unless you never seat it correctly to begin with?
