After Recall Pump Replaced - loss of performance

I just had the recall pump on my 09 MCS done. It feels like I have been de-tuned. It is soomth through the gears going up, just lost the kick in the pants. Has anyone else had this issue?

mine has thrown 6 cel's as of today, no apparent loss of power, have you tought that maybe your car is running hotter/colder than usual?

My fuel economy is down about 1 mpg. It is scheduled to go back in on Tuesday for a timing chain replacement. Outside temp his is about 25 degs cooler than it has been. Not sure if that could be the cause. I would think think the turbo would love the cold air.

I haven't had mine done yet. Figure I'll wait a little bit longer to see the verdict on the fix...then I'll take it in.

Ditto, i'll wait for awhile so that the tech will be trained and experience thoroughly fixing this recall. Don't want to be a guinea pig :P

I suspect your "detuned" experience may have been the software update that addresses the torque steer.

I had it done the first day and it was no issue at all. The techs have done hundreds by now.

Today the dealer put me in a brand new mcs. 5 miles on it. The power it has vs mine after the pump install is amazing. I called the dealer they are going to keep it another day and do some test driving. I'll keep everyone posted on the out come. Thanks for the thoughts, I have passed them on to the dealer & Tech.

Mine felt a little different after the timing chain replacement and reprogramming but not after the water pump recall done 2 weeks later. After the timing chain reprogramming it wasn't as jumpy and no lag on the gas pedal when not in sport mode.

Well, everything is great now. They replaced everything on and around the timing chain. The list must have 15 items and they replaced the main water pump too. So not sure where the problem was, but it now it makes no noise on start up and runs like a cat with it's tail on fire. It took them 2 full days to figure something out. Thank you everyone. They were asking for tips from you guys and I passed them on.

Latest update - It looks like after you replace the timing chain, you drop a couple of miles / gallons. It's starting to inch up slowly. I have been down about 3 now only 2.5. Power is still good and no more rattle.

Had the water pump recall done over the weekend on our 2008 Clubman S. Picked up the car yesterday and tonight driving home from work got a dreaded check engine warning light.

Car is going back first thing tomorrow morning. Servicing dealer is Braman MINI in Miami.

I havent posted on the forums in a long time.. but the thing i came looking to post about, i found this thread.

So my wifes 2010 had the recall done last weekend, and since driving it, the power is down right anemic now. It is noticeably down on power.

I have no idea what the recall was for other than the car would light on fire. I don't drive it, my wife does, but i like to get in it and rip around town every once in a while. The power loss was immediately noticeable.

So - what should i tell the dealer when i call them? That it is slow now? Or is there something in particular that they need to do to the car to restore the power? Reflash?

More info - car has only been in for service one other time since new. Could this have been some sort of reflash they did to the computer causing the anemic performance? I mean even my wife noticed it today-- thats how poor it feels.

Had timing chain replaced - CAM replaced, vacuum pump replaced and recall done. What a difference in sound no more rattle...amazingly quite! Even though I am at 40,500 miles all of the work was N/C!
I am very happy now, the car is quite, smooth running, same power, will see about mileage.

Make sure you guys check all your connections. I had the oil line to my turbo replaced a month or so ago and they forgot to tighten some bolts and plug in my recirc. valve. When I brought it back to them they couldn't find anything....up to MINI spec (my ****). It wasn't until I was sick of having half the power that I checked things myself and it was a quick fix.

Just pop the bonnet and check things out. Any loose hoses? Any loose electronics?

Good luck!!!

I poked around last night and saw nothing amiss. I'm pretty familiar with cars (other car is a heavily modded sti), but this is the wife's car, and the hood has only been open twice by me....LOL. It's stock.

Anyways, i didn't see anything immediately wrong, except the turbo was very poorly manufactured. Grind and scrape marks all over the compressor housing. I thought that odd-- What a pile of junk.

I called the dealer, they said they only did the recall, and had a note that something was changed for the tire pressure sensors. I'm wondering if they flashed the car and that is why we are experiencing the power loss. They won't admit to anything. My understanding is that this was just a circuit board on the electronic water pump for the turbo.

I will have to check again. Worst case, get the boost gauge out and see what numbers it is reaching under full load.

Ugg, my 2008 now has the timing chain rattle every time I start it. Before it was only when it was cold, now it's every single time. Plus I still need to get the recall work done

Bump. Picked up a obd2 scanner that will work for the mini. displays real time data. Will see what boost levels this thing is reaching.

Car feels so crappy now, like it was detuned. I just had the recall done and on the way home I felt like an old man in a plymouth getting passed on the highway. I even tried pushing it to see if it was just me but no. The car is noticably slower.
