Loaded up/extremely rich on first start of the day

2006 MCS stock. 30k miles. The initial start of the day the engine acts as if it is "loaded" with fuel. It is very rich and can be smelled in the exhaust. After I wait a minute and blip the throttle a couple of times everything appears normal. The engine does not stall. I do get a "check engine soon" light at start up which quickly disappears. Is this because maint. is due or because the engine is throwing a code?

Thanks in advance!

Take it in to an autoparts store and have them hook up to it to see if any codes are being stored. It usually doesn't cost anything to have them do that for you.
