have an '09 R56, just developed an intermittent extremely rough idle on cold start about every 4th day . No response from gas pedal and CEL on. Idles smooth after 3rd or 4th start up. Any suggestions?

 

Is this a turbo or naturally aspirated? What's the CEL you're getting? See if you can get a code from the car. Are you still within warranty?

 

Yeah, get it scanned with a MINI approved scanner, like a Bavarian Technic unit.
There's a CEL because the ECU clearly sees a fault with the driver interface and powertrain.
Scan, grab the EXACT fault codes and reply back to acquire more assistance.

thanks guys, it's an R56 turbo. Had the Alta Access Port tune installed but had to clear the codes and uninstall to get the car started. Don't know if uninstalling is the reason why is ran properly, but didn't have the problem last night.

Will likely have to wait until the problem arises and will capture the codes. There were two listed on the Access Port but may have been related to other mods like high flow cat affecting O2 sensors.

Seems odd that it would run so poorly on start up, and run fine after a few attempts. Maybe condensation on a sensor lead?
