Windows opened during the night!?!?!

Went out to my car last week and found the windows open and 1/2 inch of snow in the car!!!

Brought it to the dealer and on the way the doors were unlocking and locking themselves.

They said it was a bad driver side door latch so they replaced it. They also replaced the carpet in the car because of the snow

Oh and they replaced the tire pressure sensor on the driver side rear tire it was always going off for no reason.

Has any of this happened to anyone??

Yep!

on more than one occasion my windows have gone down all the way.

I went out the other morning to go work and found both windows down and the sunroof open, along with some moisture in the car.

I have comfort access. So unless I accidentally held down a button on my fob...my car has a mind of it's own.

lol, this is why I call my baby Christine. Same thing happened to me when the wife and went to Vegas. Good thing we have awesome neighbours that put umbrellas in the windows and sunroof until our house sitter got home from work. No damage done luckily, because it rained almost that whole week we were gone.

I've had it happen once, last summer. Very strange - went out to leave from work and the windows were open. Very strange.

my car has a tendency to unlock themselves. On 3 different occasions I have locked the cars for the night only to return with them unlocked. Both my R56 w/ comfort access, and today the R52 w/o comfort access.
Ruling out the obvious I did not press the button.
I also use 24 hr survaliance on my car and it happened at 0239 in the morning.
The keys are stored in a hidden lock box away from transmitting range.

This happened to me last night! Went out this morning to find the car still locked but both windows 1/2 down and the car very wet from heavy rain. I have had this before but something that only occurs once every six months will be almost impossible to fix unless it is a known problem.

it is a known problem! it's a bad door latch the dealer replaced mine after the snow and I have not had a problem since! Good Luck

Thanks. I am out of warranty (48k miles) and the nearest dealer is 120 miles away. Is this something that can be swapped DIY?

a electronics box in fault, it captures wrong info from key and sending the wrong info electrical accessoires (without touching the key...)

a lot of Mini have this problem :(

I had great difficulty that the dealer agrees to repair ... it is
shameful, MINI oxford has not provided a solution for months.

since this change, no problem

Same thing happened to me. I came out in the morning when it was about 25 degrees outside and both windows were rolled half way down. I've also found it unlocked on numerous occasions when I was sure I had locked it. The dealer was unable to find anything wrong of course. They suggested that I was pushing the button on the remote accidentally but I have a bit of difficulty pushing it intentionally, so I doubt that is the case.

My 2005 did this once, parked at the airport for a week w/the moonroof open and the windows halfway down I theorize that when I got on the shuttle to leave, the key fob pressed against my leg and that opened the car up. had that lame feature disconnected.

however, the R56s have such small switches I cant see that happening

This has happened to my car several times. Footwell module replaced once. Both door handles replaced. When Comfort Access is disabled, the problem appears to go away. Love the car but I can't trust it here in cold, rainy Ohio.

Does this only happen to cars equipped with comfort access?

I don't think so.

Also, if you suspect it is the key fob that is doing this, when you open the windows with the key fob, you end up with the drivers door unlocked. With this problem the windows open on their own but the doors remain locked.

I have now had the windows roll down in the night several times and the doors are still locked so it is not the key fob. I went to my dealer today with this problem and had no success. Of course he could not repeat it and there were no faults recorded. He said there are no TSBs on it and no info from MINI. Is there anything I can reference to show him that this is a known problem? He does not count postings on forums as justification to start changing parts of a car so really needs something from MINI or another dealer.

FLKeith; Your car appears to be a 2007 model (may be too old). I would think that it is going to be very difficult to have BMW/MINI deal with the real problem. I would start with an unemotional, business-like letter to MINI Customer Service in NJ. Tell them, in detail, what has been happening with your car. Tell them that the dealer has not been able to fix it. Your warranty handbook has the address and the procedure. Good luck.

I have been working in the garage and all of a sudden the MINI will open all the windows and sun roof. Hmmm. I noticed this would happen every time I bent down toward the floor. Appearently the key fob is sensitive enough that if it touches something in your pocket or just gets tight from bending over or something it will activate the auto window function.

You are more than welcome to have your dealer call my dealer.

Herb Chambers MINI of Boston
herbchambersmini.com

1168 Commonwealth Ave
Boston, MA 02134

I would have to call them and ask when I was in. But they should be able to give another dealer all the info needed with my name and model...

Hope it helps and keep us in the loop!

I just had this window half-down problem occur to me last week. I took it to the dealer and they found moisture in the window connections and then they greased the connectors according to a bulletin. I know they did the grease, because it is all over the inside of the windows now in big streaks.

This happened to me all the time about 1.5 years ago, brought it in constantly, three different dealers. Finally they reprogrammed the computer (least that's what they told me) and I think it has only happened once to me since. 2007 MC (not S) no comfort stuff, automatic w/sunroof.

Honestly, I think it has something to do with the program. Think about how the window roll down about 3/8" when opening the door and closing the door. There is an algorithm to do this and when the window is not all the way up, or lets say 1/8" to 1/4" it may think one thing while when it is 1/2" or more it may think something else. I just think it's in the program and/or the sensor that tells the computer where the window is.

Well, this just happened to me today in rainy Seattle. Thank goodness it happened when it wasn't raining cats and dogs like it has been the last 3 days. I'm going to call the new Seattle dealership about it tomorrow morning. I sure hope that they can fix it but this thread is really worrying me. I can't live with a MINI that opens its sunroof and windows all the time in an area that rains constantly through the winter.

Hopefully they can find an easy fix for you. In my case, the culprit was my drivers side door handle. Since I have comfort access, the switch was wigging out, and once they replaced it the problem has disappeared. Gotta admit every time I push on that little button on the door handle it makes me think I should be using the fob instead to avoid it possibly happening again.

I had this happen a week after I got mine (09 MCS) this past October. I took it in and it ends up there was a sensor fault... Apparently not an isolated case. It has been fine since.
