02 mini with disable radio messge

we were told it could be ibus connection by another reader here...is this something that we need to contact a dealer on or is it something we can take care of ourselves?

we had taken out the battery to replace the ignition switch..we have also tried a couple of things that dealer told us to do.

could use some help. thanks

I just had this and solved the issue by disconnecting the CD changer. Apparently it was the cause. There are many things that can cause this. Any one will do it. Unplugging them one at a time is how my mini tech buddy figured it out. Problem was I installed the changer so he "knew" it couldn't be that (Because of the mini build sheet my vin generated) and did everything else first. He said it was the problem and removed it, but I don't know if plugging it back in would have been OK or not. At that point I am pretty sure he didn't bother to check if it was actually working or not, or if the fact it was not coded in the computer was the issue.

Here is the schematic.

I doubt the CD changer (if the car even has one) has anything to do with it in this case.

In an 02 radio, that will trigger the security lock. If you don't have the radio's security code, you'll need to have a dealer look it up. Newer radios use the ibus for security, but an 02 uses a security code. After you have the code, enter it as described here: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...896-post4.html

My case was taking out the battery to replace it. His problem may be solved by any one of the things on the bus, including the CD changer.

ours actually was caused by taking the battery out to replace the ignition switch. when we put the battery back in we had the disable message on the radio.
