Rust in the floor by the Gas pedal

Hey all,
I wanted to know if anyone else has had any issues with rust developing in the front of the floor board around the gas pedal. I had an issue with water and pulled the carpet, i noticed a pretty heavy rust build up around the gas pedal bracket. I know this if from the great salt we have in the northeast. I've have rubber floor mats since new, but of coarse the mat goes around the pedal and that's where the crap sits.

Anyway, I went to take car of it, and my rust became a hole. Two to be exact. It looks like i'm goint to be dropping a new floor in. Just wanted to know if anyone else has seen this.

BTW: this is an 04 with 136k, so there is no warranty

A whole new floor is probably not necessary. Bring it to a good body shop, they can cut out the rust and weld in a patch, so that you'd never know it was repaired.

Here's what I would do. Get some POR-15 and paint the affected areas that are rusted, inside & out. POR-15 will dry rock hard and bond to the rust. It will not rust again, this stuff is great. As for the holes, after the POR-15 has dried, take duct tape and seal the holes from the bottom, then apply JB Weld over the affected areas and let dry over night, remove the tape. The rust shouldn't come back and the JB Weld is extremely strong so it will reinforce the rusted areas. This will fix your problem for years to come at a very minimal cost.
