Rough Idle/start up issues
Rough Idle/start up issues
New to the forums here! Mini Cooper 05 automatic 118,000 miles (I drive to and from Danbury to Stamford CT everyday
)
Having a shaking problem at start up, rough idling. Also in traffic occasionally car will start to rough idle like it is going to stall but then doesnt. On one occasion, maybe 2 it actually has stalled after start up if I put it into drive to soon.
I recently got my car inspected and oil serviced and informed the mechanic of the issue.. I needed the following things, spark plugs replaced, air intake boot, control arm bushings, valve cover gasket replaced, and power steering suction hose replaced. I got all those things done and replaced.
But alas, the issue is still there. Seemed to help alittle with all the work I had done. Not shaking so much in the mornings anymore, but throughout the day, assuming when the car is more warmed up, its happening still.
I have read alittle on some forums that it might be the fuel pump or the purge valve? Anyone know what I should say to the mechanic. I need to bring it back to them as the issue is not fixed. They did a full inspecition and I got everything needed they said I did. But still the issue remains.. ahh what to do..

ESPO,
Check out the last post in the "sticky section: Is your call stalling upon start". I read nearly a thousand posts with no real answer -OR- it is difficult to determine what the fix is. But, I still compiled a list of "potential" fixes.
I'm at the dealership now..... They are unable to make a diagnosis.
You might wanna try the easy items in the list to see if they make any difference before letting the dealer "RAM" you for big bucks tinkering around with "possible solutions".
This is great business for THEM. Sucks for Mini owners.

Thanks, I will check out the thread. Car has only stalled 1 or 2 times at start up. Seems like whatever I got fixed has stopped the shaking/rough idle in the am, but after driving around, after parking for lunch and at the end of the day it does it again.
Frustrating....I see your list on the last page. Thanks again.

Have you checked the coil leads? There is a thread about it right now. This is just so common it has to be checked by everyone. I'm not sure the symptom points to it, but easy enough to see
