possible pcv failure?

My 07 MCS is burning alot of oil. i havent been able to shake the pcv valve to see if its good but it seems that if its stuck closed then the engine would but the oil vapor rather then venting it..but is that just the vapors or is there a possible gasket issue which the oil bypasses the gasket and enters the pcv system only to either vent the actual oil or to let the engine burn it. Ive posted a thread before about me literally needing a qt of oil every 1000 miles or so.

It's most likely blow by from either worn (or starting to turn bad) rings or pistons. An alternative is a bad cam tensioner seal/gasket. How many miles do you have on your car and how hard do you generally drive it? I wouldn't think this a problem until over 60k, but there's always possibilities.

If you check with MINI a quart every 1500 miles is totally acceptable on these cars and you will find many people that use that much oil.

I usually have to put in a quart every 1500-1800 miles on both my MINI and my BMW. And both have been that way from day one. MINI has 82k and the BMW has 108K and i expect both to last for 200k.

I have a friend with a BMW that needs a quart every 1200+/- and currently has over 300k on it and it has been that way since it was new.

Now some people do not use that much but many do so it seems to be okay

I have 65500 on it. And I normally don't push it hard but I defiantly don't baby it. And a quart every 1000 miles to me isn't acceptable at all. Manufacturers put that as specs to cover there ***. I was told by my local mini dealership that it could possibly be the.gasket and would cost 700$ to do the job...not paying for that

The PCV valve is integral with the head cover, it isn't a separate piece. If it were stuck, the turbo would pressurize the crankcase and you'd have oil oozing out of the engine like crazy!

It's actually a widely used automotive manufacturer standard; look around, you'll see similar results.

Out of the multes of cars I've owned, I've never had to add any oil to a vehicle between oil changes except when a ring failed. I race quite heavily and never once have I had to add oil either due to blow by (2-3 ounces of oil per oil change) nor by any other means. If your car is losing one qt per ~1000 miles, that's nearly an additional oil change every oil change (if you change it every 3-4k miles). While I have read from other oil manufactures state one quart per 1000-3000 miles is an acceptable loss, every 1000-2000 is way too high for me. Once you hit 3000 (maybe 2500), I can see the justification by how the engines work. Anything below this I would think something is wrong too, regardless what manufactures say. Something's not set properly, sealed properly, failing.

$700 is way high for the loss/gain. You'd not make that difference up until you hit another 100k miles. Now, if it just started to burn this much and had never been doing it, there may be other problems lurking just around the corner. If it's always done it, then I'd accept it as an acceptable loss.

Oooo, at 1 quart/thousand, you'd never have to change the oil, just the filter!

True and i have no idea if it has done it since it was built. I just bought it a couple months ago. Maybe its just the oil? I've heard sometimes cars basically drink mobile 1.
Dave- semi true. I've heard you still get a small about of build up in the oil pan. So if its not drained then it could completely sludge.

That's not technically 'approved' via the LL-01 ratings through BMW / MINI.

Really? Have you asked for special order? Several auto-parts chains can bring it in...
Also, I've drop-shipped oil to my door before which can save on shopping around for it.
