2011 MCS - Knocking while accelerating in sport mode
Issue number two I have with my brand new 2011 Mini Cooper S 6 speed with 1000 miles:
I noticed when I put the car into sport mode, in the first three gears of acceleration, when I engage the clutch and shift, I hear a pretty loud thumping or rattle coming from the rear of the car. It doesn't rattle when shifting into 4th, 5th or 6th and it is not caused from just pressing in the clutch. When I take it out of sport mode, the issue magically disappears and it doesn't rattle.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

sure it isn't the pop-and-burble? mine can do it hard enough that I can feel the pop through the back of my seat. actually pretty cool. that's the same thing I was thinking when I testdrove one and put it in sport mode
your welcome! I LOVE the pop and burble on my 2011! I found it does it the loudest at ~2,500RPMs and when I am coasting in town I usually stay around there to hear it. my friends and family say it is pretty loud from outside, even the deep grumbles that it does.
I heard they brought back the pop & burble of the old school MINI's due to popular demand and cleverly tuned it to happen while sport mode is engaged. Do the 10's have this as well or is it just the 11's?

The N14 engines also did that, but they removed it at some point with a software update...
I have a 07 MCSa, whose DME I have not updated and I know that if I press the accelerator hard and then suddenly release it, it will burble (all with neutral or park engaged). Being an automatic, the gear changes are smooth and so no burble occurs when driving (sadly).

funny
I recently drove my 79 with a group of new ones
now note, my 79 has a modified 1275cc with an LCB header and a PlayMini twin DTM exhaust ... it HAS burble ... sounds a bit Harley like at times

When one car got in front of me I kept hearing a slapping sound. I thought some piece of my car had come loose, it sounded like plastic slapping in the wind. I couldn't find anything loose so I suggested the '11 owner check his car . . .
no, that's the factory burble he says . . .
my 02 had burble ... it sounded like REAL burble
