For last couple days everytime i turn off my mini 05 base model cooper its almost like battery goes dead cant use key to lock It . shut the car off and the dome lights and clock shut off clock has to be rest thebuttons on keys wont lock it its like some one dissconnected the battery all of a sunnden .. The other day it did it wouldnt come back on for like 5 mins ... Any body have any ideas ? I hook obd reader just sez rear o2 sensoe bad would that cause it to happen ?

 

It’s possible that the battery is starting to fail. From other posts I've read, dying batteries display a wide variety of symptoms when starting to fail. If yours is the original battery, at 6 years this may be the source of your problems. My original battery lasted 4 years; its replacement is almost 5 years old. When it died all systems failed, the worst problem being mine is an early ’02 S. It doesn’t have an inside boot release and it was locked at the time.

 

but didn't the key in the door still provide a manual unlock for the door anyway ..

so you open the door and pop the bonnet, then attach jumper cables to the provided points and then pop the boot

yes, it is still a pita . . . but you CAN get in.

OP, I concur it sounds like the battery is failing. I feel that 5 years is a good life expectancy for a battery but just today there was an article attributed to AAA in the local paper about car batteries and they say 2 to 3 years . . . main thrust of the article was the increased calls they are seeing for battery failure because people are trying to hold on to their's longer.

Luckily the driver’s door was unlocked (car was in the garage at the time) and I did open the bonnet. I connected my jumper cables to the ‘points provided’ and I might as well have been trying to jump start a cinder block. I was able to get my arm between the seat back/ rear shelf and reach the seat back release. I attacked the jumper cables to the battery terminals and the toggle switched worked.
