speedometer stuck

So i was driving and had some ikea stuff loaded in the center of the car, car almost merges into me, i slam on my brakes, ikea stuff flies into my speedometer, surprisingly no cosmetic damage, but now my speedometer is stuck at 65 mph. it wont move, tried turning off the car and back on, nothing. is there a quick fix to it if i dismantle to housing and tinker with it, or am i gonna have to get it replaced all together.

Another one here that had a stuck speedometer. Today, I noticed that when I was driving around 65 mph in my 2011 MCS, the analog speedometer was reading around 110 mph! When I parked the car the speedometer was stuck at around 40 mph. After sitting in the driveway for about 30 minutes the speedometer is now back to zero. This is the first time that I've seen this problem. We'll see if this happens tomorrow...

Tinker with it first. A replacement would be very expensive. Here's a guide to removing it:

I has just experienced this today on my drive to work.
I called one of the local Mini mechanics as the dealership was so quick to tell me I needed a new speedo. He told me to disconnect the battery and let it sit for a bit. He explained how this would essentially reset some of the system components (speedo being one of them) I did this and it brought the speedo back to zero.

Hopefully this doesn't happen again.

That will work if its not damaged from ikea stuff flying around and hitting the tach

Otherwise a Gauge Test function resets it.

Wife got in a drag race with some munch who sped up just to be a butt and she stuck the speedo at 95. I am kinda proud of her since she doesn't know all the times I've been there. Just undid the battery neg terminal so we shall see if that does a reset in twenty minutes. I love these blogs for all the awesome help I find here. Thanks NAM members.
