Hello,

Simple question for some of you out there. I have a manual 04 R53 and I noticed that there is a large circular opening on the front bottom of the lower part of the air intake box. I see in the diagram that there is an intake duct for automatic transmissions that attaches to the opening. I was just wondering for manual transmissions, is there something that is suppose to attach to that circular opening?

Are you talking about the hole that is right above the #11 (the actual number, not the piece it refers to)?

If you are then 12 plugs into that hole. It's just a plastic piece that takes air from the front of the engine, which is cooler.

I have an 03 manual and those pieces are intact on my car.

If the bottom of your airbox was cut, that was probably a mod by the previous owner. I think it is supposed to increase airflow a little, but mostly it increases supercharger whine.

 

Thanks for the reply. The previous owner had Ford injectors and cut out the air box and removed the air duct pieces as well. I was able to order a stock box new from the dealer as well as the air duct pieces.

 

You could also get a cold air intake. Some of them take air from behind the airbox instead of the front. I believe the Alta CAI does this. depending upon what the dealer is making you pay it might be cheaper (and also cooler looking). Not sure if you are looking for the increase in supercharger whine though.
