Driving lights fogged...

I had MINI driving lights installed last January so they've been on the car for a year and a half. This past weekend, I noticed that the insides of the lens were fogged up in both lamps. This is the only time I've noticed any fogging. And now they are perfectly clear...

The only thing that has changed since installing them is that within the last month or so, I decided to put the covers on them - the highway driving was really starting to pit the surface of the lens. Any thoughts?

So no worries? Do you think going to MINIS on TOP and the elevation of Mt. Washington had anything to do with it?

I have the same problem with my '07 MCS. It appears to be some kind of vapor deposition. Anyone have a procedure to disassemble?

Fog lights should not get moisture inside them. My 2009 MCS had the problem on both lights and they replaced them. No problem since then. My wife's 2009 had 1 bad fog light and it was replaced. No problem since then either.

Strangely, this is not moisture. There is a milky white substance on the insides of the lenses that looks like it would wipe off. I have not seen any condensation inside of the lamps. Maybe some water got in there and the heat of the lamps evap'd the water component and left a residue. The mechanism looks a lot like a vapor deposition process.

Disassembly info here:

Two days ago I had the same exact milky fog on the inside surface of the lenses...I had washed the car a day or two before but it had no resemblence to moisture buildup and to me, looked like the bulbs had smoked the inside of the lenses.....I was totally perplexed.

Then next day it was all leared up.

I have Hella 500 Black Magic fogs.....
