motor emit a screaming noise starting around 5500 rpm to redline. The first time I heard it I thought it was a blowoff valve. I then asked fellow R56 MCS owners st s meeting of our MINI club, but no one had an MCS that made a scream above 5500 rpm. I had another minor matter requiring dealer adjustment and reported the scream too for investigation last week. They gave me a 2011 Justa automatic as a loaner. SA told me the scream is normal for a 2011 MCS. What has been your experience?
Dear Claud
My 2011 CR MCS only has about 750 miles so per the owners manual I have kept it under 4500 rpm. I will get back to you as soon as I reach 1200 miles, as I plan on opening it up!
What do you mean by a screaming noise? People make screaming noises sometimes, machinery doesn't. A little better discription might help. When the engine is cold on my JCW it is louder on acceleration, around 3000 rpm, but that goes away by the time the temp. reaches around 160 degrees. Sounds like the muffler is being partially bypassed.

Its like EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!
The noise did not start until after 2600 miles. Am I hearing "overboost"?? Or is my dealer SA just not helpful??

Claud,
I went through the exact same issue as soon as I put on the NM Cat back.
Read my thread and towards the bottom there is a youtube video of a MCS with NM cat back doing the same thing.

Mine is 100% coming from behind the front seats so it is NOT the engine. In speaking with others this is an odd trait that seems more common with NM exhausts. Some have said its either increased air pressure shooting past an internal weld or seam causing the "scream" or some kind of harmonic tone.
Either way my car has 4500 miles on it and it seems to be harmless.

Mine makes a screaming, high pitched type sound, something like the tires squealing on asphalt. At first I thought I was a badass getting the tires to break loose through all of the gears, but then realized it had to be something else. I do have a Magnaflow catback, but the sound is coming from the front.
Homer,
Its funny you say that because the first few times my car did it, people were telling me without a doubt it was the tires breaking loose and spinning. I had to demonstrate it a few times to prove that it was not sqealing tires.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who has this "problem"

Claud, By all meand continue to post your questions...I've only been a MINI owner for a few months and have a lot to learn still.
If you post your question, then others can benefit from the Q&A...but I'm also glad to answer any PM's..
(On a side note, for an off topic plug, check out my wifes new graphics on her 2011 Clubby.....
We just wrapped them up this week!)

I can assure u it is not the turbo spooling. If it were then all cars would do it, even stock. The only cars i have ever seen make this sound started doing it as soon as the NM exhaust was installed. My car did it the first trip after install.
Mines an 07 s and it makes a noise similar after that and I know it is the turbo. It did it the second I put an aftermarket CAI on. And put it back to stock and it stopped. Then put it back on and the noise was back. I honestly believe it's your turbo spooling or circulation
SSixspeed i hear where u are coming from, howver my car did it before i ever added the CAI. If u see my linked post above all the details are there.
My car def emmits the sound from the rear hatch area AND it is audible 100 yard behind me to people standing by the roadside. I have demonstrated it time and time again and its in no way coming from the engine area. Its odd, thats for sure.
