I got my cooper s 2 weeks or so ago, i noticed sometimes when i'm turning, there is a scratching noise. initially i thought it was the front bumper (i used to drive a four-wheel drive - i never cared about bumps and i'm a girl, i'm allowed). but then i realised it cant be, does anyone have this problem? or is there something wrong?

is this a thing you notice particularly at low speed?

If so, is it something other than the little whine from the power steering pump?

I think we need a little more info re speed, tire size, etc,etc to attempt to figure out what the noise is. Scratching noise?? You may have to bring it in to service w/o more info

sorry left out some info......hm it's usually when i'm in 1st (maybe 2nd as well?) and the noise tend to come when i've just finishing a turn...even if it's just a little turn.

 

I don't know enough yet about the MINI, but on a classic Mini, that sounds like a CV joint issue.

 

I don't think this is the same problem but I just started to get a "Cracking" noise eminating from the steering column. It happens when turning in close quarters situations i.e. parallel parking, 3 point turns etc. Anyone no what this could be too?

 

i'm going to take the car back in to install the alarm and to fix the condensation in the tail light. then i'll ask what's going on with that and keep everyone posted ok. cheers for the replies anyway :smile: are there any more problems that ppl have encountered that i might have not noitced?? might as well ask about those while i'm at it. sick of going back and forth to the dealer. did anyone have a MINI which were not the one they ordered exactly?
