Seat controls jammed --- can I fix it?

It's a long drive to the dealer, so I'm hoping for an easy fix. The driver's seat will roll back and forth using the front lever, but the seat-back lever now only flops the seat-back forward. It doesn't roll the seat forward like it's supposed to. Is there something I can oil or fiddle around with?

Sounds like you need a new mechanism, so you're going to most likely wind up at the dealership anyway.

There was a write up in the "how to" section of http://bridger.us/mini
for re-syncronization of the seat recline mechanism. Try it first before motoring off to your dealer.

Good idea about the bridger site ---- I forgot about that. However, the link to the article about the seat recliner seems to be "under construction." I'll try again later. It's not urgent and I really don't want to drive the 5-hr. trip to the dealer right now.
Anyway, checking bridger.us gave me a chance to see the Cooper Cabrio. So cool!

Reviving and old thread...

My passenger seat won't recline - it moves forward and slides forward, but won't recline. Any known fix for this issue?? Looked on Motoringfile, but couldn't find anything.

TIA

Had the same thing. It is most likely the cable got kinked by someones foot sitting in the back seat and has broken. Bad news is the whole seat rail has to be replaced dealer item. If you move the seat forward and look at the inboard side of the seat from the back you can see the cable and spring release. That is what allows the seat to slide when you fold the seat forward.

Guess it's off to Mtn View for a warranty repair...
