Low beam HID lights not working

My MCS 2004 HID low beam headlight (passenger side) is not lighting up. High beam and turn signal work. The fuse in the fuse boxes are good. The light bulb is new.

I tested my passenger side "broken dr2 light bulb" in the drivers side socket and the light bulb light up. I checked the fuses in both fuse boxes and the fuses are fine.

Any ideas what to repair, would be keeping my passenger side low beam HID bulb from lighting up?

Sounds like the ballast ( that metal box on back of hd light housing ) is bad.

They are as expensive as replacing the entire HD light assembly.

Thanks for the reply on the low beam question. I was really turned off by the cost of the HID bulb to begin with. I did not think that there was sufficient light in the low beam setting to warrant such a high cost for the bulb (99bucks) now that the balast may be at fault, I am thinking this would be an oppportune time to chage from HID to halogen.

Have you ever heard of anyone doing so? and what are your toughts on HID lights? Fad or worth the extra money?

Low Beam HID Ballast replacement

I've been through this twice in the last year, first time took it to the dealer and they replaced the whole headlight assembly and cost my extended warranty company a couple hundred bucks. Second time, other headlight and after warranty, I found one on ebay, for about $100 and it took all of five minutes to replace the unit. It's easy enough to swap out with your working one to make sure it is the issue, but I would lay odds it's the ballast.

Might be the ignition element on the back of the bulb. Item 7 in the diagram. I would suggest swapping the ignition element between headlights to make sure problem follows the element. Looks like about $110 for the part.
