Possible electircal issue?

When I'm sitting in my car with the key removed and I turn on the radio, I see the speedometer and tach spike. Is this normal? Also, the other day, my radio wouldn't turn on for a few minutes. Pressed one time at it worked perfectly. Typical Mini gremlins or something odd? Thanks.

First question to ask is how old is your battery?

I just purchased the car, so I don't know. I had it checked out and it was fine. That may not mean much. Perhaps I should simply purchase a new battery?

EDIT: Battery is as old as the car ('05) It's only holding 65% of charge. Alternator's good. I will simply replace the battery.
