I have an 7/03 MCS and have had zero problems with the car. However, I see many of you have gotten the V36 upgrade and have indicated NEW problems since getting the upograde. What exactly is this upgrade "suppose" to do or cure. Also, I thought it was the dealers responsibility to contact me with any upgrades or warrenty issues? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

My approach ...may not be totally scientific...but here's my opinion
If it ain't broke...don't fix it

I have a 05/2002 build.
I still have version 3.2 in it and will not upgrade.... because I've had...ZERO ..problems.
No yo-yo or stumble.

I would say leave well enough...alone
Just my 2 cents

Some of the dealers are delinquent re: advising of upgrades. You will be best advised to ask questions here on NAM

Peace,
D

If you have zero problems you should sit tight and not upgrade the ECU software.
If you have stalling and stumbling then you might want to update your software to v.36 in an attempt to correct or improve on these problems but the results seem to be variable and the yo-yo problem doesn't seem to be corrected.
The updates for ECU software are not mandatory. Leave well enough alone.

I have different view. I think if your MINI is stock, you're better off with the latest S/W version. They wouldn't go to the expense of releasing a new version if there wasn't a significant performance improvement.

However, if you have installed some non-factory performance mods, and you're happy with the performance, you run the risk of having a newer S/W version having some adverse effect. Because of the mods, you would then have to pay to have the earlier version restored.

fwiw, my 04 MCS has the latest version and it runs significantly better than any of the 03 cars (with earlier S/W versions) that I test drove. I don't think any mechanical changes were made to the engine for the 04 model so I'm attributing the improvement to the software. Just one data point...

My dealership says if nothing is wrong (stumble or yo-yo) with the car they can detect then they will charge me
$150 to install the latest software v.36

You cannot ask for the latest software to be installed for free.

My dealer (Prestige) upgraded my MC under warranty. Although I told them that my stumble wasn't too bad, I did notice that the bill indicated that I had problems stalling. I guess they did that so it could be covered?

The idle is higher on my mom's CVT since the v.36 install. I believe this was to smooth out the stumble as the car used to idle @ 800 - 900 rpm instead of the 1000 - 1100 rpm since the flash. Another thing I have noticed is that throttle response is a little slower since the flash. There is still an ocassional stumble while idling for a while, but there is still a stumble when shifting from reverse to drive or vice versa. I really don't know when MINI will get this solved or how the car will react in hot weather, and I don't know if I have the patience to wait for ensuing versions of the hit or miss fix.

My 03MCS has had the terrible stumble with DSC since new however I have waited until a cure was confirmed. My MCS was due in for several other warranty issues last week and after reading the positive results here concerning V36, I asked it to be flashed stating the DSC is DANGEROUS when trying to pull out into fast moving traffic. Mine would die and stand almost still for 2 to 3 seconds before beginning to pull away as I anxiously reached to shut DSC off. I am happy to say that I can now drive with DSC on without the dangerous conditions as before. While it's not 100% gone, it is a night and day difference.....so I'd recommend it to anyone on the fence about getting it flashed.
