The other day I was driving and a yellow triangle with a gear or wheel in the middle popped up then it was gone. A few days go by and today the same thing. I dont see anything in the manuel that looks like it. Any ideas?

IT is probably the yellow triangle with a "snowflake" in the middle which comes on when the temperature goes from 38 degrees or higher to 37 degrees or below.

I.E. you leave the house and the temperature is say 42 degrees and as you are driving you go down into a valley where the temperature drops to lets say 35 degrees. at the car senses this temperature change and goes passes by the 37 degree mark the light comes on to warn of the possibility of icy roads.

Edit: it is in the manual under warning and indicator lamps section.

Yup, what schatzy62 said. That was my first thought too. I remember the first time I saw this come on... I had to look it up too! And then all winter I was constantly saying, "Yes, MINI, I know it is cold. Thank you."

In my 1st gen, it doesn't even come with a helpful icon.. just a ding and briefly flashes the temperature on the tach.

This chime can be turned off with coding equipment. See the Electrical modification forum, top sticky called Close Sunroof and windows with remote if you are interested.
