I am currently having problems with my 2002 R50... According to my mechanic, there is a good possibility that I will have to replace the transmission. I have been looking around, and have found someone who is setting the transmission out of an R53. Will this be compatible with my manual R50? What might I need to also replace to get my mini up and running again??

I can't tell you all the technical details regarding the swap of an R50 transmission for an R53 one, but MiniMania has replacement transmissions available and they also sell the internal components if you find someone to rebuild it. One word of caution, though, your cruise control will no longer work if you decide to go with an R53 transmission. I am proof of that since I had my early R53 transmission replaced with a latter model tranmission with LSD and the cruise function now ONLY works in 3rd gear.
