See this every year when we have sub zero temps. Sometimes it does not get cold enough here in the states.

Either get the Cold weather intake above 11614584240 , which sends the valve cover air right before the cylinder. Or clean out your old one, which you will have to pop it off and the throttle body.

The TIB number is also on that linked page with info. Diagram shows you the hardware and locations. That line above 11157605186 when you have the cold weather intake is removed. as the cold weather has the new version already installed. Just re-clips into that left side( passenger ) valve cover port.

Thats all the info I have.

I noticed in a post at https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ilable-15.html #371 that they say the "air channel" won't fit with this new manifold and one needs a new air channel 13-74-2-756-043 31MI AIR CHANNEL: 13709974

Do you know anything about this. Is there another part then that I need to order? I don't even know what an air channel is.

Thanks, ..Roger

Have not seen it mentioned for that , 13742756043 is the stock part that attaches to the firewall behind it for people with the sound generator N14 engine to -6/2010, JCW -2012. But they also mention the 11614584240 was updated again. Maybe the newer design compensated for the sound tube. All I can see is that the tube comes close to the manifold, but its the same part number as the old one ?

# 16 in the diagram.

Even the 11614584240 has the tab on the upper corner to hold the soundmaker box.

Well I bought the cold weather manifold from ECS Tuning, and had it installed by a free-lance mechanic out of his home garage. The mechanic said it took 4 hours but his rates are really reasonable so it wasn't as expensive as it could have been. He mentioned that it was difficult to remove the old manifold because of the piping and he was worried about breaking the plastic throttle body. He also said there was some strange looking greasy frozen sludge that had to be cleaned out.
So there were no other parts that had to be bought - just the new manifold.

So far no more problems, but it's only been a few days since he installed it, although we have had -20C weather and usually I'd have problems when it's that cold.

Thanks!

Awesome, thanks for the update and the order. That greasy frozen sludge is the oil / water mix that collects from short stop starts and never gets burned off.

Would anyone know if a performance (metal) intake manifold would fix this problem?

Not sure but I'm wondering if adding a catch can to keep the water out would help.

Essentially, a catch can separates the oil vapors from the crankcase air before it is returned back into the intake system, keeping your intercooler and sensors working at peak performance. More information (R56) here. Catch can's can be purchased here if interested.

The newer intake design keeps the vapor out near the throttle body. A catch can will separate the vapors out. Which then can be drained later on.

So... I'm drudging up this thread from about two years ago.

Wish I would have known about this when I did my intake build back in April, 2015:
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ore-power.html

I've recently had some issues with CELs (which of course popped up right before I had to smog the car). It led me down a path where I was taking my car back to Mini to see if my warrantied valve cover was causing my idle and power drop issues. Turns out my issues were related to a lose hose clamp, but I went to Mini anyway. Mini of Stevens Creek in San Jose, CA. While I was there, I met with the shop foreman, who chatted with me about my car for about thirty min. This OEM cold weather intake manifold crept into the conversation. He essentially said that because the new manifold distributes returning vapors to multiple points (instead off a single point like the standard manifold), it would help reduce carbon build. Indicated that it makes the intake work like a combo port/direct injected engine instead of solely a direct injected engine.

Anyone who's installed this cold weather manifold have an opinion on this?

My car is a 2010 Clubman S with 60K miles on it. Its been carbon cleaned 3 times. As such I purchased a BSH Oil CC. My CC has been off for about 6 months while I sorted through some tune issues and readiness codes. Also, it normally doesn't drop below freezing here in northern California, but for the last few weeks temps have been hovering around freezing (30-35 degrees over night). When I start the car, idle is ok, but I hear what sounds like timing chain rattle (mine's been upgraded to the new design, and I've been assured I do not have a problem...), but I'm not sure it is the timing chain rattling. I'm wondering if its actually a mild version of what others have reported here: freezing/gumming of oil and water in the manifold. After about 5 min, the sound goes away. I don't notice any limp mode, and the car doesn't seem to be down on power (although I don't push it until its been warmed up a bit).

If I get this updated manifold, do you think I should still run the Oil CC? I do have the BSH adapter that also blocks the line from the manifold to the valve cover.
Thanks!

The intake just bypasses the vapor past the Throttle body, puts them closer to the ports and combustion area. In very cold areas this prevents the icing of the throttle body. All the info is above. You will have to run the catch can on the other side and not on the bypass CC throttle. Unless you can mock something up, i have not see a CC version intake with a catch can on the same side as the newer design.

I don't have the car anymore. I've got a BMW i3 EV with REX. (Just such a fantastic car - highly recommended!)
My Clubman was fun but it had a few problems such as this intake manifold one. I live in a cold climate for the winter and I it went into limp mode too many times. All I know is that the new intake manifold fixed the problem. Surprised that it wouldn't be an out-of-warranty recall for the car.
I also had that problem with the computer module in driver footwell getting soaked and shorting out. Luckily I convinced Mini NAmerica to cover all the repairs for that, after threat of shouting out on social media.
The Clubman suspension was forever hard and noisy (some noise in the rear end that I never got rid of and the auto shop told me was just normal for the Mini which can't be the case in my mind).
Anyway, enjoy your car, but if you're ready for an EV, consider the i3.

I hear you man, and to be totally honest, I'm not sure why I still have this car. It is not well designed and something is always breaking (and mine is a low mileage example). Almost everything related to running the engine is weak (valve cover, manifold design, carbon build-up, coils, fuel pumps, timing chain, etc.) not to mention other common issues (turbo heat distorting hood scoop, rear shock failure, motor mounts, trim pieces falling off randomly, rattles that you can hear, but can't locate, electronic gremlins, etc.).

I had a colleague ask me about buying a Gen3 Mini, and I vehemently said 'No'. Also, the Gen3s look funny (although the new Clubby is growing on me). Maybe with the influx of BMW parts for the Gen3s quality will improve, but I until I know more, I wouldn't buy another. For some reason, though, I keep chugging away at this thing. It is fun to drive, and I know I created ~20% of my issues by modding the car, but man, if I didn't have another vehicle and needed something more reliable, I'd be up ***** creek without a paddle. But I keep going back. I hated my 2007 Civic because it had no soul... My Mini... wouldn't say I love it, but I do appreciate its charm.

Just an update and great new, we were able to get the rare cold climate version intake back into production under bremmen parts!

This part is NLA from MINI. So we are the only option.

We also have the normal version back in stock.
