'04 bogged, now new motor??!! Help!!!

My sweet little Tosh (yes, I named him) was bogging. I thought the idle just needed adjusting. Nearly died out at 25mph while shifting, just because it was bogging so badly.
Now - a couple weeks later... terrible rattling/knocking sound, and the neighbor / mechanic says I blew a rod. And was 4 quarts low on oil!! I wasn't due for an oil service, and have no oil leaks on the driveway. But it appears I blew the engine with lack of oil.

What the heck??

I'm near Napa, CA. If anyone has advice or knows a good technician, I'm all ears!!
It's lookin' like a big bad bummer. : (

Thanks!

Is it an S or regular motor. Possibly sounds like a supercharger if you have the s

Not if she was 4 quarts low on oil - that's why it was "bogging"....

You're looking at a new engine for sure - you might investigate a used one to save some $$$$ - they're out there.

As to a good shop in your area, I'm no help there. Maybe your mechanic/neighbor can give you a recommendation?

And for god's sake check your oil once a week!

05' S - Same exact issue. Talk about a heart attack. I was exactly 4 quarts low as well. Horrible knocking sound. I just dropped it off at an import shop. I'm supposed to hear back tonight or tomorrow. No oil on the driveway for me either. Service mileage says I have 7500 miles left to go before a change is needed. I had no oil light or MIL come on either. Sad sad day. Let me know what you guys think and what you find out with your car.
