Mass-Airflow-Sensor cannot be cleaned?!

hey, i have a stock air filter, yet i feel much acceleration sluginess around 2-3k rpm and when at 4krpm flooring it just makes noise without the expected acceleration. also i am experiencsing a 177 miles to the tank on my r53 04, and compine all those it is giving me a big headache on my used car...it has 66k miles on it (only 1000 of those are mine).

i took it to the mechanic but he dismissed the idea of cleaning the MAF sensor saying that "it is not even possible"...so now i know he sucks...what can i do? would no mechanic clean it or was it just him? im even expecting an MAF cleaner to be shipped shortly so that i go hand it to the mechanic and tell him "do it"...

MCS 04 R53 no mods

The 04 MINI has no MAF, only 2 MAP sensors.

those MAP sensors also measure the air in the engine? I mean could they be the reason why i am running so rich? is there a way to clean them or would i have to replace them?

Manifold Absolute Pressue sensors work by measuring the pressure in your intake manifold. The ECU takes that number, along with how many RPMs your engine is turning at and uses that to calculate air flow into the engine. If those were reading high you could be running rich.

Any codes?

There is a bit of a dip at that RPM that is sort of normal. Your mileage is low, but MPG would be better since filling can happen at different points of the tank. Also, fast pumps will trigger the auto cut off faster, so it is best to use the same station, pump and measure MPG.

If you are putting 8 gallons in @ 178 miles, that's 22mpg...normal for me. If you put in 10gals, it is very bad, so you can see how actual MPG is important.

I can get 22mpg with mostly city driving with my mods if I don't womp the thing, but 20mpg is more typical. If you are getting 17mpg or worse, there is something very wrong, but it is so off I would think it would show some codes.

Post MPG for the best advice.

FYI, 21 or less is normal for me, but I am a very aggressive driver.

Put a can of Seafom in your gas tank and run it with a full tank of at least 91 octane gas should help clean fuel system and injectors. Seafoam can be purchased at Walmart for about $ 9.00 a can and does an good job on fuel system.
