Nope. Mine goes like a "Lawn Dart" at a "Kabul-ki Dance" through all six(Air Force terms).

Mine is also sluggish off the line unless you overrev. I'm waiting to here from my dealer about this rumored software fix. For now when I need to roll out I roll the windows down, turn the AC off, tach up to 3g's or so and ease the clutch out while applying more throttle.

Damn I love this car. And those of you that have the dark silver, you have to get your windows tinted using high performance film in the 20% shade or so. It looks sooo sweeeet.

It's CD #31.

CD #30 was used to program cars up until August Build.

I had software from CD #31 loaded onto my MCS yesterday and it fixed the cold start problem.

On super hot days with the A/C blasting the tach needs to push 3500 before getting any umph in my MCS. If there is a fix for this I'd like to know.

The software upgrade seems to help the power delivery at low RPM's in first gear.

The difference is noticible when the upgrade is done then you start getting used to it from there and it doesn't seem as signifigant.

All and all the upgrade is well worth it. However, taking some weight off the wheel/tire area is still a great idea, especially if you have the 17" s-lites (50lbs).

Dave:

My MC was built during August 2002. Does this mean that I still need to get the update done to CD #31?

I haven't had any problems but would like to know and if need be schedule a service appt to get the ECU update to CD #31.

Please advise.

Thanks.

Most likely you are not affected. I would just wait for some time you're scheduled to be in the service department anyway and then just have them check. All they have to do is plug your car up through the OBD II port under the dash on the driver's side and they can tell automatically if you have CD 30 or CD 31.

With an august production car, I would NOT make a special trip if you are not having cold start problems.

I've always wondered, are dealers charging for ECU upgrades, or having your car programed (for the first time)??

batticus: it's not a new chip, just new software. It will diminish the 1st gear bog quite a bit. All dealers should have the software very very shortly if they don't have it already.

Hi Dave,

Does the 5-speed MINI Cooper need the CD #31 upgrade? Is that supposed to help it at lower speeds? TIA.

Cheers!

Hi Clover,

That's what my service person tells me -- the fix for sluggish response in 1st gear for the 5spd MC is on that CD.

Clover: I have heard the same thing as JohnW from a couple different sources. As I have an S I can't vouch for it from personal experience (cd 31 improving Cooper performance).
