06 CVT - High engine rev
06 CVT - High engine rev
Hi,
I have a stock 06 MC with the CVT automatic with only about 22k miles. I cannot quite remember if the car has always driven this way or if it only recently started but the car seems to rev way too high at around 55 mph typically surpassing 5000 rpms (but never quite redlining). If I speed up to 63 mph or so, the rpm will drop to 3500 - 4000 which seems more normal to me. If I slow down to 55, the rpm will go back up. Does this sound normal? I just happen to go 55 most of the time so it does feel like the engine is always reving high on perfectly flat highway with no AC on which worries me.
Thanks.

This sounds normal if you're driving in Sport mode (SD, shifter to the right). If you are in 'D', then your shift points should be around 3K under normal acceleration and around 2K for cruising.
Thanks... I only drive in D mode. SD mode pushes the rpm off the chart. I just don't remember if the rpms normally run this high but it is loud. Mpg has been normal. 60 feels/sounds much better but around DC, 55 mph is about as fast as I can go. All other speeds feel fine.
Update
Just a quick update in case anyone is curious. I brought my mini into the dealer as something was definitely wrong. I actually had to change to SD mode between 47 and 61 mph to drop the rpm from > 5000 rpm to around 3200 rpm. From 61 on, I would drop back to D mode as the rpms in SD mode were higher. Anyhow, dealer confirmed that shift points needed to be reset and changed the transmission fluid as well. This is the second time in 12,000 miles I have changed the transmission fluid and had the shift points reset (the first time fixed the low speed stutter) but the car runs great again. The good news is because they changed the fluid, according to the dealer and an email I received, the transmission is now covered under a lifetime warranty as long as have it serviced again before 55,000 miles. If this is true, this would be great news as the CVT is the one thing I worry about the most.

Save the letter!!!
I'm sure folks will want more info!!
