hello all. i just noticed a sound coming from the motor when i'm sitting at idle at a stop light or sign. it only does it when idling at most times and once i hit the throttle it goes away. has anyone else had this issue? it is a chirp, hum sort of sound. bearing of some sort? pulley? suggestions?

Next time it happens, open the hood and just listen till you can pinpoint where the sound is coming from. I had the same issue, I heard little chirps and squeaks and found that it was coming from my water pump.

Does this normally happen once the engine has been running for a while? If so, I would probably look into the water pump.

yes it seems to do it when the motor is warm and has been running for a while. i popped the hood a few times and really can't pin point it out quite yet. the mini is a totally new thing for me. thank you for your help.

 

I am having a similar chirping sound as well. I have isolated it to the rear of the car on the passenger side. The sound chirps at a about 60rpm and does not speed up when the engine is revved. Anyone have any ideas?

 

Water pump.

Had mine replaced under warranty. Supposedly some have a faulty seal or something that starts a chirping squeal.

yours sounds like brakes or wheel bearings if its strictly speed related
